The Kinship Necklace
** $5 from each necklace sold will be donated to causes focused on bettering the community **
My husband and I were sitting on our patio in downtown Abbotsford soaking up the view of Mt. Baker. We were thinking about this place we call home; the landscape, the experiences we’ve had, the community that surrounds us, and how thankful we are for the wonderful people we get to share our lives with. We spoke of how this place is a piece of us; it’s where we grew up and the place we call home. As much as this place makes us, we in turn make this place. Each of us, as individuals, have an impact. We are someone’s neighbour, friend, or co-work and we help make up the experiences of others every day. What is a place but the people in it?
I wanted to incorporate these thoughts into a piece of jewelry. A reminder to ourselves of where we came from, to be kind to our community, and to leave a positive impact on our home as we are all in this together.
I feel that the view of Mt. Baker is something that everyone in our area shares and at some level helps them feel at home. My husband went and got the sketch book and started drawing the mountains at sunrise. We designed this piece together and it is my favourite design so far.
This piece represents so much to us, but what is most important is what it means to you. The sunrise, a symbol of a new beginning. Each day is a new day, an opportunity to be who you want to be, to live life fully in the present moment and to intentionally connect with yourself and others. The mountains are beautiful and powerful, just like the amazing people we all get to share our lives with.
My hope is that you love this piece as much as I do, that when you put it on it connects you with what is most important to you.
Chain length is 20 inches, pendant is approx. 18mm x 12mm
- What is Gold Filled?
- What is Gold PVD?
- What is Sterling Silver?
Gold-filled jewelry surpasses the value of gold-plated pieces by a significant margin. Remarkably, gold-filled items contain nearly 100 percent more actual gold content than their gold-plated counterparts. This results in gold-filled jewelry possessing the same coveted properties and appearance as solid gold. Moreover, it boasts exceptional resistance to tarnishing and is water safe. For individuals with metal sensitivities, gold-filled jewelry offers a worry-free option, as it can be worn without concerns of triggering allergic reactions.
PVD, short for Physical Vapor Deposition, is a vacuum coating method used to apply a gold layer to the base metal, used by luxury brands like Rolex and Cartier. G&J uses an extra thick PVD coating well above the industry standard. Compared to gold plating, PVD coatings offer superior resistance to corrosion caused by sweat and everyday use. This process results in a dazzling, functional finish, particularly effective when used with Stainless Steel as a base metal, ensuring it remains hypoallergenic. For those who prefer to keep their jewelry on at all times, PVD is an excellent choice due to its vibrancy and exceptional durability, lasting for many years.
Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% alloy. This 7.5% is usually made of copper or zinc. The addition of these other metals makes sterling silver significantly stronger and more durable. All of our silver pieces are made with '925 Sterling Silver', never 'silver-plated'. They are hypoallergenic, tarnish-resistant, and made to last!
